Mr. Vlaich, the new middle school teacher, teaches Social Studies and Religion here at Holy Redeemer. Mr. Vlaich says he hasn’t always been into teaching. “In high school, I wanted to be a doctor or a male nurse, then I found out how hard it was so I stopped. Took Intro to Education class and thought I’d give teaching a try and I loved it.” Before teaching, he was a server at a restaurant. “I had another job where I wrapped steaks with bacon, and that’s pretty much what I did all day. Worst job I ever had.”
Vlaich’s time isn’t all taken up by teaching, however. In his free time, he enjoys all kinds of sports. He watches football, plays volleyball, and claims he “dominates the old folks” in pickleball. Mr. Vlaich has been interested in sports since he was a kid. An accomplishment he will never forget is when he won the City County for volleyball in the 8th grade and made it in the newspaper.
I asked and Mr. Vlaich explained why he finds it important to teach children Social Studies and Religion. “I enjoy teaching history because I like telling stories. Because that’s what history is-a bunch of real-life stories. I enjoy teaching religion because I enjoy teaching kids to grow closer in faith and to God. I like seeing you guys learn and get smarter,” states Vlaich. He likes what he does and wants to see kids grow.
Additional fun facts about Mr. Vlaich include that he has a cat named Ellie, and in high school, he played basketball against Jason Tatum. His last meal on Earth would be his mother’s chicken parmesan and her cookies for dessert. Holy Redeemer is so glad to welcome Mr. Vlaich here with open arms and much gratitude!
